The Polymer Composites Technology Program is a development programme designed for technicians, process engineers, team leaders, and higher level operatives employed within industry sectors that process polymer composite materials as part of their main manufacturing function. The programme has been developed in recognition of the growth and advances in the use of polymer composites by companies and the need to focus training for key personnel, in the specific properties, characteristics and processing behaviour of this unique range of materials and the processing technology employed.

The programme has been constructed as a result of industry consultation, where the need has been identified to develop individuals to a higher & broader competence level to enable greater contributions to a company’s performance and speedier introductions of new materials, processes and product applications.

It recognises that the underpinning knowledge and skill level required for an individual operating at this level is common, regardless of the industry sector or product being produced and will therefore allow for an individual to transfer more readily from one industry to another.

The programme comprises a range of stand alone individual learning modules, where the learning will be assessed and accreditation awarded. The modules will comprise approximately 70% practical exercises and demonstrations. In time an industry “Passport” will be developed so that individuals are able to record their achievements and competence levels, thus creating for the first time a specific vocational standard for Polymer Composite Processing at Technician level.
